Scott, can you be specific about the item you're editing? It's possible that it was originally a forum attachment.

Hi Boone - Yes you're It is a forum topic. It is the first item here: https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/cac-community-team-project-planning/library/#/

Is it possible to edit the folder for such an item?

  • Tracker changed from Bug to Feature
  • Subject changed from Library Item Edit goes to Forum to Allow forum attachments to be sorted into Group Library folders
  • Target version set to 2.5.0

Thanks for the clarification, Scott. It's not currently possible to place a forum attachment into a folder. I think this is because we originally put all forum attachments into a Library pseudo-folder called something like 'Forum Attachments'. I think we can consider adding this improvement for a future release, though it will be non-trivial - we'll need a new view that is similar to 'Edit Library Item' but which has a link to the linked forum thread. I'll change the ticket description accordingly.

Coming back to this issue as someone teaching with the Commons, and I can say that as someone wanting to use the group library in a purposeful way to share readings etc with students, having forum attachments (such as an .ics file for a zoom meeting) mixed in is a bit confusing

Hi Matt, I'm adding Sara as a watcher, and I had a couple of follow ups.

Is the crux that the main Library tab shows forum attachments? I've seen that tab get jumbled for certain groups too, because it shows a simple reverse-chronological list of uploaded Library items that includes forum attachments. There could also be some utility for that in other groups though, right?

Does your ideal solution involve hiding forum attachments from the main Library tab? Because just being able to put attachments in tags/folders won't prevent the attachments from showing up on that default initial tab where they are "mixed in" with other uploads.

It's possible right now to create a separate folder/tag that includes whatever you want, and excludes forum attachments. Maybe another solution is a way to default to a certain folder/tag as the main Library view, or a better way to highlight them as a navigation option besides the top drop-down? Just throwing out ideas and clarifying the issue (hopefully).

Hi Colin -- I think that this ticket has a fuller discussion -- https://redmine.gc.cuny.edu/issues/23321

I do like your idea of thinking through what the default view should be
